Medication Management is Here

A New Chapter at Mala

A message from our founder: Dr. Hasti Raveau

Dear Mala Family:

I am so excited to share exciting news that marks a turning point for Mala Child & Family Institute—one that has been years in the making and is incredibly close to my heart. This news represents a dream I have carried with me for nearly a decade, and seeing it come to life fills me with immense gratitude and pride.

Let me take you back for a moment:

Years ago, when I was just starting my journey as a clinical psychology doctoral intern at the University of Michigan's Mary A. Rackham Institute, I had the honor of shadowing Dr. Richard Dopp. I vividly remember sitting in on his medication management consults, watching him work his magic. What struck me most wasn’t just his vast knowledge, but the way he made every patient feel seen and heard. Dr. Dopp’s compassion flowed effortlessly, empowering families to make the right choices for their own healing. And yes, I’ll never forget the way he would get down on the floor to play with pediatric clients using Lincoln Logs—it was so human, so warm. He wasn’t just treating symptoms; he was connecting with people’s souls.

Fast forward to today, and I am blown away by how much we’ve grown together. In 2023, we achieved milestones that I could never have imagined when I started this institute. We opened our clinics in Farmington Hills and Ann Arbor, expanded our training programs, and welcomed Dr. Katie Sawchuk to lead our psych evaluation program. And in 2024, we launching our art therapy program under the guidance of Elizabeth Webster, MA, LPC, ATR, and soon after, our occupational therapy program led by the extraordinary Katy Bachleda, MOT, OTRL.

But I still knew something was missing. Building a truly holistic, multidisciplinary team has always been part of Mala’s vision. I believe with my whole heart that healing is most powerful when it integrates every aspect of a person’s needs—mind, body, and soul. And I also knew that the missing piece of this puzzle was a robust medication management program, where psychiatric care and psychotherapy could work in harmony, under one roof.

We envisioned a space where trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and culturally sensitive care would be more than buzzwords—they would be lived values. Where clients could access everything they need, from medication management, to school advocacy, to therapy, all in one place. And now, that dream is about to become reality!

When you work from your heart, the universe listens. And the universe answered us in the most extraordinary way: with the return of Dr. Richard Dopp—the very mentor who taught me what exemplary psychiatric care looks like. He’s joining us as Medical Director of our brand-new Medication Management Program, launching November 1st. Alongside him, we have three incredibly skilled psychiatric nurse practitioners: Krishna Jakkula, APN, PMHNP,  Ashley McGovern, PMHNP-S, BSN, RN, and Giovanni Parochetti, PMHNP.

This team isn’t just here to provide medication. They are here to collaborate deeply with our therapists, our OT, and our entire community to ensure that every client receives the highest level of care—rooted in compassion, expertise, and respect for each person's unique journey. This is not just medication management. This is healing in its truest form: holistic, integrated, and deeply human.

Mala is a special place, and I’ve always believed that. But with this new chapter, we’re stepping into a whole new realm of care. And it’s only possible because of the love and trust you have placed in us over the years. We’ve built this together. You are part of this story, and I can’t wait for what’s next.

So, here we are, standing on the edge of this incredible moment. We are launching Mala’s Medication Management Program on November 1st, and I could not be more excited or more certain that this is exactly what our community needs to thrive.

Thank you for walking this journey with us. Thank you for believing in Mala. The best is truly yet to come.

With all my heart,
Hasti Raveau, PhD, LP
