Richard Dopp, M.D.

Dr. Dopp brings with him an extraordinary breadth of experience, having served for almost two decades as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Michigan's Department of Psychiatry, where he has led initiatives in medical education and child & adolescent psychiatry. His dedication to innovative, evidence-based care aligns perfectly with Mala’s mission to provide trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and culturally sensitive services to families in need.

Dr. Dopp is passionate about promoting wellness in children and adolescents, particularly through the intersection of physical activity, sleep, and mental health. His research into these areas demonstrates a deep commitment to addressing the root causes of emotional and psychological distress, values that resonate deeply with our holistic approach to care at Mala. Like Mala, Dr. Dopp believes in the importance of preventative care and early intervention, working to identify and support at-risk children and families before issues escalate into crises.

Dr. Dopp joins Mala to oversee our medication management program, where he will not only see his own clients but also lead a team of psychiatric nurse practitioners and interns. His vision for the program is ambitious and collaborative, emphasizing compassionate, individualized care while advancing professional training. Dr. Dopp is excited to create a robust, hands-on training component for psychiatric nurse practitioners at Mala, allowing them to learn from his expertise and continue to deliver the highest level of care.

Dr. Dopp will continue to serve as Medical Director at the University of Michigan’s University Center for the Child & Family, maintaining his long-standing connection with Michigan's academic and medical community. His decision to join Mala speaks to his desire to expand his impact on mental health care by developing a program that not only treats but empowers both clients and practitioners alike.
