Katie Sawchuk PsyD, LP
Director of Assessment
Ann Arbor & Online
Hello! My name is Katie Sawchuk and I am a licensed clinical psychologist and the Director of Assessment here at Mala Child and Family. I act as the primary supervisor, overseeing all testing cases and procedures. I am passionate about providing guidance and support to young clinicians with the goal to provide clarity to clients and their families on holistic testing approaches.
My experience in conducting neurodevelopmental assessments is extensive, covering Autism, ADHD, Twice Exceptionality, Learning Disabilities, as well as assessing symptoms of anxiety and depression. I am deeply committed to offering neurodiverse-affirmative approaches, ensuring that individuals and their families receive the understanding and support they deserve.
My mission extends beyond individual care to include the development of confident, skilled diagnosticians. By supporting clinicians-in-training, I aim to foster a new generation of professionals who are equipped to provide compassionate and effective care. Together, we can create a future where neurodiversity is embraced and celebrated, and every individual can thrive.
At the Mala Child & Family Institute, I am committed to ensuring that every individual receives a thorough, compassionate, and accurate evaluation. My role is pivotal in shaping the quality and effectiveness of our diagnostic services, which are foundational to developing personalized, effective treatment plans. My expertise in neurodevelopmental assessments and dedication to neurodiverse-affirmative approaches allow us to identify and address the unique needs of each individual. By mentoring and supervising our doctoral trainees, I also help cultivate a team of skilled, empathetic clinicians who are well-prepared to serve our diverse community. This dual focus on excellence in assessment and training aligns with Mala's mission to provide holistic and culturally sensitive care, ultimately contributing to the well-being and empowerment of the families we serve.

As a young child to a doctor and nurse, I watched in awe how both of my parents offered comfort, clarity, and support to so many people. I couldn't imagine any pathway other than providing people with that same level of support and space. Throughout my clinical training, it became clear that my passion for psychological testing was greatly needed within the community and therefore became a strong motivator for my role as the Director of Assessment.

The world of psychological assessments can be confusing and discouraging to many. With my years of experience providing psychological testing services to children, adolescents, and adults, I feel strongly about sharing my knowledge and expertise with young clinicians and the community.

I care deeply about supporting clients and their families to find understanding and support through psychological testing. Through my supervision, I hope to educate young clinicians to provide holistic, evidence-based, and affirming diagnostic clarity for their clients to enhance overall wellbeing.
