Introduction:
Hi there! Thank you for being here and reading about me. I hope that I will have the privilege of getting to know you and supporting you in your journey of health and growth. My own journey in mental health counseling has been shaped by my multicultural heritage and a deep commitment to supporting individuals facing various challenges. Growing up in Arizona as a multi-ethnic man, I learned about the importance of having a sense of belongingness, caring for others, being connected to community, having and offering emotinal safety, and valuing mental health despite cultural stigma around it. I approach therapy as a collaborative journey, drawing from a diverse range of therapeutic modalities to create a personalized and holistic approach for my clients. I see being of service to others as an honor, and I feel blessed that my life has shaped me to be a mental health provider.
Passion & Expertise:
My passion lies in assisting racial minorities, all genders, individuals with low self-esteem and complex trauma, and those battling anxiety and depression. Additionally, I specialize in couples counseling, family systems, serious mental illness, addictions, PTSD, OCD, and trauma informed care.
Eclectic Approach & Therapeutic Techniques:
My therapeutic toolbox is expansive, blending psychodynamic, humanistic, cognitive, and faith-based approaches. I utilize a multitude of evidence-based therapies including CBT, DBT, ACT, interpersonal psychotherapy, companion-focused therapy, and trauma-informed care to meet the unique needs of each individual. I also enjoy incorporating play strategies with children and adolescents as a way to connect with them and help them process their emotions and practice new coping skills.
Special Focus Areas:
I'm particularly dedicated to trauma treatment for all ages, and addressing the needs of racial and ethnic minorities. I help individuals understand how their childhood experiences shaped how they cope with life now, and how they can form lives that feel authentic, safe, and fulfilling. I also work extensively with individuals facing everyday issues such as breakups, divorce, parenting challenges, life transitions, stress, anxiety, sleep problems, loneliness, and adjustment disorders.
Multicultural Background & Understanding Acculturation:
My multicultural heritage—my mother being Peruvian and my father being Lebanese—has provided me with a deep understanding of the acculturation process. I intimately comprehend the struggle of integrating cultural values in a modern-day American context while cherishing and honoring my diverse cultural background. I've learned that being grounded in who we authentically are and loving all parts of ourselves are the best forms of freedom and liberation.
Philosophy & Personal Touch:
I firmly believe in the strength and resilience of individuals. My approach is not just about alleviating symptoms but empowering clients to uncover their strengths, navigate challenges, and foster personal growth. I intertwine cultural sensitivity, empathy, and a safe space for exploration in every therapy session.
Fun Facts:
I recently adopted a kitten, Pupa (named after a funny character from a TV show called Solar Opposites) who is giving me a small taste of parenthood! Outside of rocking it as a therapist, I run our family business with my brothers. I absolutely love watching movies! My favorite movie of all times is The Joker. My favorite ice cream flavor is strawberry.

Someone who inspires me greatly is my late father Dr. Ahmad Atriss. My father’s journey from war-torn Lebanon in the 80's to becoming a respected PhD electrical engineer in the States embodies the transformative power of resilience. His ability to overcome the adversities of immigration and war trauma, while excelling in academia, showcases the potential to turn hardship into an opportunity for growth. As a devoted husband, father, and community leader, he illustrated that trauma doesn't define one's ability to love and contribute positively to society. His unwavering faith and commitment to family amidst adversity inspires others to channel their pain into personal growth and strength, showing that resilience and determination can shape a brighter future despite challenging circumstances. His story serves as a beacon of hope, encouraging others to find purpose and success while navigating the complexities of trauma, transforming it into a catalyst for personal and communal empowerment.personal growth and strength, showing that resilience and determination can shape a brighter future despite challenging circumstances.
