Fatin Jafri, MS, TLLP
Psychologist
Farmington Hills & Virtual
Hi, my name is Fatin and I am a psychologist here at Mala with a passion for helping children, adolescents, and their families! I obtained my bachelor's degree in psychology from Wayne State University and my master's degree in clinical behavioral psychology from Eastern Michigan University. My specialties include autism, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, ODD, OCD, intermitted explosive disorder, anxiety disorders, and mood disorders.
I understand the unique challenges that neurodiverse children and their families face. I take a behavioral and strengths-based approach in therapy, to empower my clients and help them build on existing strengths as well as develop new skills. I work closely with parents, offering coaching and training to address behavioral and emotional concerns. I believe in collaboration and being person-centered, so that everyone involved feels supported and heard! Some specific evidence-based therapeutic techniques that I utilize are behavior analytic techniques, CBT, ACT, and DBT. Therapy with me isn’t just about talking—it’s about connection. I love incorporating play, creative games, and crafts to engage younger clients in ways that feel fun and natural for them. I also enjoy using humor and being silly, which helps me build trust and create a safe space for my clients. My ultimate goal is to foster a sense of comfort and security, empowering kids and their families to grow, learn, and thrive.
Some fun facts about me are that I love spending time with my family and friends, trying new foods/cuisines from around the world, connecting with my own culture, and watching movies! My favorite comfort movie is Spirited Away. I am also obsessed with the Legend of Zelda gaming series!

I initially became interested in psychology and mental health when I noticed that much of my mother’s recollection of her childhood revolved around my grandfather’s battle against mental illness and emotional trauma. I come from a South Asian and Muslim background, and as I grew up, I saw that not many people from that community are represented in the mental health field so that also became another reason why I decided to become a mental health professional. I love giving back to my community, and this is my way of doing it!

Hi! My name is Fatin and I'm so glad we're going to spend time together! I know that sometimes things can feel tricky or overwhelming, like making sense of how others act, talking to people, or even handling big feelings. That's okay. As your therapist, I'm here to help you with these things, and we'll work together to build skills that make life easier. We'll also focus on the things you're great at, because I know you have some awesome strengths that make you special! Whether it's something you're really interested in, or something you're amazing at, we'll use those strengths to help you grow even more. We can talk, play games, or even use fun activities to explore different ways of doing things. My goal is to make sure you feel supported, understood, and strong, no matter what challenges come up!
