November 1 Marks A New Era at Mala
Mental Health Medication Management is Here!
Today, November 1, 2024, marks an incredible new chapter for the Mala Child and Family Institute. With gratitude and excitement, we are proud to announce the official launch of our medication management program. This step forward represents not just the expansion of our services, but the continuation of our heartfelt mission to deliver unparalleled, comprehensive care that uplifts and empowers every individual who walks through our doors.
What makes our medication management program truly unique?
At Mala, we do things differently.
Holistic Integration Across Services
Our new program does not stand alone. It is embedded in a rich, multidisciplinary approach where psychiatric providers collaborate closely with psychotherapists, psychologists, occupational therapists, and school advocacy professionals. This means our psychiatric team understands our clients deeply and contextually, thanks to their active collaboration with other providers. The result is a well-rounded approach that addresses the complexity of each client's needs.
Living Our Values
At Mala, practicing trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and culturally sensitive care are more than words. Our psychiatric team has been trained extensively to embody these values, ensuring every interaction is steeped in understanding, empathy, and respect. Under the direct leadership of Dr. Richard Dopp—whose two decades at the University of Michigan have been dedicated to the very principles that guide Mala—our providers bring both heart and expertise to their work.
Tailored Services for Every Need
We recognize that effective medication management varies greatly depending on who it serves. That’s why our team includes specialists with expertise that can be transformative, covering areas such as perinatal mental health, BIPOC care, addiction, neurodiversity, OCD and anxiety, trauma, and mood disorders, among others. This ensures that each client receives care that is not only effective but also deeply personal and relevant to their unique circumstances.
A Holistic Approach to Wellness
At Mala, we understand that medication is just one piece of the puzzle. To promote true wellness, we emphasize the importance of therapy, accurate diagnoses, movement and exercise, play, sleep, nutrition, spirituality, and community. This whole-person approach ensures that clients are supported in a way that fosters resilience and long-term well-being.

Yes! We do not require clients to be in therapy at Mala in order to receive medication management with us.

During your initial consultation, we will review your current medications. If appropriate, we can take over medication management from your previous provider and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan.
How does the medication management process work?
The process typically begins with an initial consultation with our Medical Director or a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Can I access medication management services virtually?
Yes! We offer both in-person and virtual medication management services to ensure continuity of care and flexibility for our clients.
Do you recommend that I transfer my medication management care to Mala if I am receiving other services at Mala?
Transferring your medication management care to Mala could be highly beneficial if you are already receiving other services here. One of the key strengths of Mala is our integrated, multidisciplinary approach to care. By having all your services under one roof, your providers can communicate seamlessly, ensuring a more cohesive treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. This coordination can enhance the effectiveness of your care, as medication management, therapy, and other services are better aligned and informed by one another. Additionally, Mala's team is dedicated to trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming, and culturally sensitive care, so you can trust that any treatment you receive here will align with those principles. If you value continuity, clear communication between your care providers, and comprehensive support, transitioning your medication management to Mala can be an excellent step toward holistic well-being.
