Bardia Gholami, MD
Psychiatrist
Ann Arbor & Online
I am a board certified child and adolescent psychiatrist dedicated to providing compassionate and holistic care. My passion lies in supporting individuals and families as they navigate challenges related to anxiety, depression, trauma, neurodevelopmental differences, and other mental health concerns. I believe that healing is not one-size-fits-all, and my goal is to create a warm, nonjudgmental space where people feel heard, understood, and empowered in their mental health journey.
I completed my medical degree at Tehran University of Medical Sciences and went on to complete my Adult Psychiatry Residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Michigan. Throughout my career, I have worked in both outpatient and hospital settings, serving in leadership roles, including as the Medical Director of a crisis center. My work has allowed me to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic, evidence-based care that truly considers the whole person.
I approach psychiatry with deep respect for each individual’s lived experience. I strive to work collaboratively with my patients and their families, helping them find meaningful, strengths-based solutions that align with their goals. In addition to my clinical work, I have a strong background in research, teaching, and innovative treatments such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), all of which deepen my commitment to advancing mental health care.
Fluent in Farsi and experienced in working with diverse communities, I understand the profound impact of culture on mental health and prioritize providing care that respects and uplifts each person’s unique background and identity.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my children, and I find joy in playing and composing music, a creative outlet that allows me to express myself and connect with others in a meaningful way.
I am honored to be part of each patient’s journey and committed to providing thoughtful, personalized care that helps them thrive.

“Be like a tree and let the dead leaves drop.” by Rumi always reminds me to let go of what no longer serves me or is aligned with my values.

I decided to go to medical school because I was fascinated by the complexities of the human mind and the profound connection between mental and physical health. Growing up in Iran, I saw first hand how mental health struggles were often misunderstood or overlooked, and I wanted to be part of a field that could bring real change and healing to people who felt unseen. Psychiatry became my calling because it allows me to combine science with deep human connection, to listen, to understand, and to help people navigate their pain while uncovering their strengths. As both a psychiatrist and a parent, I know how vital it is to approach each person with empathy, curiosity, and respect for their unique journey. My goal has always been to provide the kind of care that not only treats symptoms but also helps people build meaningful, fulfilling lives.

I deeply admire Dr. Israel Liberzon for his groundbreaking work in understanding the neurobiology of trauma and stress-related disorders, but even more so for his mentorship and unwavering commitment to scientific integrity. His ability to blend rigorous research with genuine compassion has shaped the way I approach psychiatry, always striving to see the whole person beyond their diagnosis. His guidance has been instrumental in my journey, and I carry his lessons with me in every patient interaction.
