Antoinette Ulmer LLMSW

DEI Director & Clinical Social Worker

Plymouth & Online

I’m Antoinette Ulmer, and I am deeply passionate about helping children, teens, and adults improve their social and emotional well-being while alleviating distress. As an advocate for you, your family, or your child, I am dedicated to creating solutions that lead to healing, growth, and resilience.

My goal is to empower clients to communicate their needs effectively, establish healthy boundaries, manage their emotions, identify stressors and coping skills, and set and achieve their goals. I also offer supportive parent consultations, working together to better understand your children’s experiences so that you can support them on their journey through life.

I approach my work with thoughtfulness, compassion, warmth, and interactivity. My methods are collaborative, trauma-informed, and developmentally appropriate. Finding the right therapist can take time, and I’m happy to provide a free phone consultation to answer your questions and help you decide if my approach is right for you.

When I’m not working, I enjoy activities that enhance self-care and spending time with my family and two dogs.

You should know you are not alone, and support is available. I believe my natural ability to connect with others creates a serene environment that allows me to serve diverse populations. I am accepting new clients, so feel free to call or email to start your healthy journey!

As the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at Mala Child and Family Institute, I am profoundly committed to fostering an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. I believe that embracing diversity and promoting equity and inclusion are essential to creating a supportive and empowering space for all individuals. My role allows me to drive initiatives that ensure our practices are culturally sensitive and affirming, ultimately enhancing the well-being of the diverse communities we serve. It is an honor to lead DEI efforts that contribute to our mission of providing holistic and trauma-informed care to every family that walks through our doors.

Get to know Antoinette

  • I believe that everyone should have a “person”, or a support system to help them walk through life. Social work embodies so many values that I adapt in my personal life.  Being a part of a profession that allows me to be true to myself and support others has always been ideal.

  • Touching the lives of others is my favorite thing about this career. Being able to provide clients with care, various resources, while problem-solving and navigating through issues as a unit. I emphasize the term unit because I consider the work we do together being a team, and I think this strengthens my connection with clients.

  • Anything from Maya Angelou is my favorite but one that comes to mind:

“Nothing can dim the light which shines from within.”

  • Not everyone is provided the same luxuries in life and I feel that my role is alleviating some of the pressures that come with that and bridging the gap. I wish that every client feels solace and a sense of relief when entering our office space, as I do being that it provides a sense of home.

  • I may have given this away with my quote, but I’ll add a few more. My inspirational people include Beyonce, Maya Angelou, Michelle Obama, and truthfully the women in my family. I believe that powerful women, come from other prestigious women and who would I be not to acknowledge the women before me.

  • My personal library includes so many that I don’t have a favorite book, but the self-help authors I’d recommend would include: Elaine Welteroth, Iyanla Vanzant, Maya Angelou, Michelle Obama, and Shannon Boodram to name a few.
